Speaking of January, the lake has a ring cleared for doing laps and a hockey rink for a game of hockey shinny as part of the winter wonderland in Sunset Lakes.

Your rural sanctuary is a quicker commute to the city centre from Greely, than from Kanata or Orleans.  The O train has two stops very close.
